Guided walking eco-tours in the Fakahatchee Strand, Big Cypress National Preserve, and Everglades National Park. Search for rare orchids, wildlife, and the rich cultural heritage of the Everglades.
Our most popular walking tour takes us through the cypress swamps of the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park — known as "the Amazon of North America." For thousands of years, moving, clean fresh water has carved away at this spectacular environment. The Park is a 75,000 acre wilderness area approximately twenty miles long by five miles wide.
A protective canopy of bald cypress trees covers a slow moving shallow river running north to south. The canopy and water below create a unique "humidity controlled" environment. Flora and fauna flourish and the Strand is home to rare and endangered tropical plant species — the richest diversity of native epiphytic orchid and bromeliad species in North America.
Groups have an option of a "dry walk" on the network of tram roads (dirt/gravel) built during the days of cypress logging (1944–1956), or a wet "swamp walk" for those who don't mind getting their feet wet. Walking through the clear, rich knee-deep waters of the Everglades is one of the best ways to experience this ecosystem.
