November 2011 -- WHAT'S NEW -- Everglades Area Tours

Capt. Bruce Hitchcock Photo Exhibit

The Friends of the Everglades Museum will host a reception on Saturday, November 12, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for Capt. Bruce Hitchcock whose photographs are on exhibit with Tyler McDonald through December. Bruce was born in south Florida and came to the Everglades 35 years ago. For the past 20 years he has worked as a fishing and photography guide. He enjoys exploring the Everglades backcountry in his kayak and feels this gives him the perspective of seeing nature from the inside as one of its own. His photographs capture the deep passion he has for this area.

Stop by the Museum of the Everglades (105 West Broadway to meet Bruce on November 12 or visit the Museum any day from Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). There is no admission charge but donations are welcome. For information, phone 695-0008 or visit website www.evergladesmuseum.org

Everglades Area Tours' Everglades National Park and Marco Island Birding, Wildlife and Photo Tours are a wonderful adventure for the whole family and a great introduction to the area.

The entire Everglades area, including Everglades National Park, is a wonderful place for birding. With over 300 species of birds throughout the year, it is the only Park that was established for its biological and ecological considerations rather than it geological features. However, most of the 1.5 million acres in the Park are flooded and essentially out of reach for the average birder and photographers. Everglades Area Tours can you take you to areas seldom reach by others.

Not only will you be introduced to the great birding and wildlife in the area by your naturalists guide, you will also learn about the Everglades eco-systems, it rich heritage and long history. We limit each experience to six guests, so you can expect an intimate experience in the wilderness. In comfortable captain's style seating and an iced cooler, you will be safely brought deep into the 10,000 Islands for a interpretive tour of the area. Depending on the season, you can expect to encounter manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, pelicans, alligators, rosette spoonbills, as well as, numerous species of fish and shore birds.

Please congratulate this month's winners this month's drawing.

Jan Novack (Miami, FL)
Sandra Mullins (Marco, FL)
