The Everglades is made up of a variety of habitats: sawgrass marshes; marl prairies; pinelands; hardwood hammocks; cypress swamps, sloughs and domes; mangrove forests; and marine estuaries.  The sheet flow of freshwater eventually mixing with the saline water of the marine environments is one of the major characteristics that makes the Everglades one of the most unique and special places on our planet.

 

However, it is not possible to experience all that the Everglades has to offer in a single outing.  We do encourage our guests to experience as much as they can during their stay. To have a Complete Everglades Experience as is practical, the three major pieces of the Everglades "pie" need to be experienced ... The freshwater ecosystems, the transitional brackish, mangrove ecosystems and the marine estuarine ecosystems.
